Fashion Weekend Tobago 2011 draws international live audience

Designers at Tobago Fashion Weekend, fashion designers in Tobago had their work seen by a worldwide audience thanks to the power of the Internet and Blink Broadband. Tobago Fashion Weekend 2011 was produced by Designers United Stores (DUS), a non-profit entity made up of former Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago (FWTT) board member, Ashley Christmas and three other Tobago-based individuals. The aim of DUS is to advance fashion and related creative industries in Tobago whilst cultivating the island's talent and increasing Tobago's international appeal.

“The show nurtures the talent of those men and women of Tobago who possess a real sense of style, runway walk and a relationship with the camera that is undeniably breathtaking” said Ashley Christmas. The creations from some of the top designers were on show, including Ecliff Elie, Kimya Glasgow, Francis Hendy, Passion Fruit Designs and The Cloth. To help promote the international access to what Tobago has to offer, Blink Broadband joined as a sponsor of the event and partnered with Events Live 101 Ltd to have an international web stream of the event. The partnership of Blink Broadband and Events Live 101 LTD saw virtual visitors from as far as the United Arab Emirates watching the fashion show live.

“The exposure was phenomenal” said Nichola Harvey, TSTT's Head of Tobago Operations. She noted that the show was of such a high quality, for it not to be showcased through Blink Broadband to the rest of the world would have been a travesty. Natoya Johnson of Events Live 101 LTD confirmed that the live view of Tobago Fashion weekend 2011 was accessed online by interested persons in the USA, Canada, UK, Italy, France , Netherlands, Norway and several of the Caribbean islands. “This was a great first step and we felt really proud to bring our expertise on board for the benefit of the designers and models in Tobago” said Mikhail Baynes, CEO of Events Live 101 LTD.

“Tobago has a legacy for offering world class talent in many disciplines, and we are hopeful that the exposure we have helped provide for Fashion Weekend Tobago will extend that legacy to the realm of Fashion design as well as nurture the talents of local models” said Ms. Harvey.
