Pan duel across the decades. TSTT donates $1 million to Pan Trinbago competitions

Trinidad - From “Saving All My Love” to “Single Ladies”, rhythm and blues music from any era sounds excellent on the steelpan. In April-May Pan Trinbago and TSTT will give steelbands a chance to show the versatility of the national instrument and win prizes in the bMobile Pan in the 21st Century and bMobile Pan Down Memory Lane competitions.

Started in 1998, Pan in the 21st Century and Pan Down Memory Lane have become two extremely popular contests of pan-playing that allow participants to showcase their skills by performing songs in the R&B genre first released either before 2000 (memory lane) or after (21st Century). These initiatives of Pan Trinbago were created to reward and encourage excellence in pan and TSTT has been a major sponsor for several years.

On Friday, April 16, TSTT CEO Roberto Peón, gave a $1 million sponsorship cheque to Pan Trinbago president Keith Diaz at TSTT’s head office in Port of Spain.

“TSTT is pleased to continue to support this very valuable initiative that promotes the integration of the national instrument,” Mr. Peón said. “The competitions also allow people to challenge each other and themselves and it is through such challenges that improvements are made and excellence inevitably achieved. We applaud Pan Trinbago for their good work and wish the competitors all success.”

Mr. Diaz said: “TSTT has been our partner in these events for some time now and has proven that it is a true supporter of local culture. We continue to appreciate their support for our efforts and for the advancement of the national instrument.”

Both competitions will have preliminaries and finals. The Pan Down memory lane finals was on Saturday, April 17 and the Pan in the 21st Century finals will take place on May 29.,From “Saving All My Love” to “Single Ladies”, rhythm and blues music from any era sounds excellent on the steelpan.
