TSTT’s war on cable thieves. Another five added to capture count

Trinidad - In the space of two weeks members of TSTT’s Operational Risk and Security Services Division (ORSS) have netted five cable bandits. The captures reflect TSTT’s intensive activities to curb this very prevalent and destructive crime.

On January 19 two Santa Flora residents (ages 19 and 23) were apprehended following a cable cut at Mon Desir Rd, Fyzabad. This was followed with the January 31 capture of three suspects (ages 16, 24 and 30) in the act of stripping and burning TSTT cables at Phoenix Park Rd, California.

“Cable theft is more than just the stealing of TSTT’s property. It is vandalism against the telecommunications infrastructure of the nation,” said Dennis Gordon, TSTT’s Vice President of Security and Operational Risk. “And by committing such acts in rural areas it hurts the people who need good telecommunications services most. We see it as our responsibility to crackdown on these activities and have put measures in place to do so. Cable thieves, you will be caught.”
