TSTT assists with Diabetes Education

TSTT continues to reaffirm its commitment to the cause of diabetes awareness in Trinidad and Tobago through its sponsorship of a series of four medical education symposia about diabetes, hosted by the Diabetes Association of Trinidad and Tobago (DATT) and the University of the West Indies.

The first of these symposia will be held on Sunday 4th May, 2003 at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre, McBean, Couva from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.mAccording to the DATT, Diabetes mellitus is one of the leading single causes for hospital admissions and deaths in Trinidad and Tobago and presents an enormous challenge for the local healthcare system. At the symposium, doctors, along with other panelists, will discuss the identification and treatment of diabetes and how it affects the eyes, feet, heart and kidneys. The other three symposia will be held in north and south Trinidad as well as in Tobago.

In 2000, Trinidad was listed in the top five countries worldwide where diabetes is prevalent. In November 2002, TSTT announced its commitment, over the next three years, to being a corporate partner for diabetes education and awareness in Trinidad and Tobago.
