TSTT makes longer term commitment to Culture

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (TSTT) and carnival interest groups – Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO), Pan Trinbago and the National Carnival Bandleaders Association (NCBA) signed a three-year partnership agreement to take Carnival Celebrations to another level. Discussions among the parties were facilitated by Mr. Keston Nancoo, the Chairman of the NCC and the agreement is a new benchmark for collaboration between corporate T&T and carnival interest groups.

William Powell, TSTT’s Chief Marketing Officer, commended the NCC and its Chairman for the visionary approach to developing Carnival, noting that the sponsorship package would cover the period 2008-2010. The funding will support the work of the Special Interest Groups responsible for steelpan, calypso and mas.

“But the real beneficiaries of this partnership between TSTT and the NCC will be the many Carnival-loving people of Trinidad and Tobago – and the world, as it will allow the Special Interest Groups to better plan and organise their unique individual contributions to the national festival,” Powell said.

NCC Chairman Keston Nancoo also shared that view, noting that the long-term sponsorship package proposed by the NCC and supported by TSTT would give the Special Interest Groups a certain level of financial freedom and reduce their dependence on State funding. “This will allow them to focus more attention on the creative aspect of their work to produce even more spectacular Carnivals,” Nancoo said.

And according to Powell, this was precisely what TSTT desired: “TSTT has demonstrated for years and today reaffirms its commitment to doing what it can to ensure that Trinidad and Tobago Carnival continues to live up to its reputation as the greatest show on earth.”
