TSTT Partners with Huawei for MPLS network solution

TSTT is giving local businesses a multi-million dollar technology boost. The company has concluded a contract with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. for the deployment of a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology in TSTT’s core network. Huawei is a leading provider of next generation telecommunications network solutions for some of the world’s top operators.

“We are extremely pleased to have the benefit of Huawei’s global expertise for this deployment which will significantly enhance the competitive position of locally-based businesses” said Trevor Deane, TSTT’s Vice President of Technology. He explained that MPLS technology is used for speeding up the network traffic flow and making it easier to manage. “Companies today support a range of communication and information needs among their staff, suppliers and customers. From voice calls, e-mail, Internet and Intranet to video conferencing, e-trade, shipping, finance and other logistics data. MPLS gives TSTT and our corporate customers the ability to pre-determine how each of these information flows are prioritized and thereby helps our customers improve the efficiency of their business. This IP/MPLS core upgrade also sets the platform for TSTT to deliver dramatically increased guaranteed speeds to all of its customers in a cost efficient manner.

Prior to MPLS, getting greater speed and performance from data networks meant purchasing more bandwidth – and even then, network operators provided “best effort” with no guarantees on the delivery of the data to its intended destination.

Jack Song Tao, Huawei’s Regional Director of Caribbean commended TSTT for taking this crucial step in evolving its network. “Huawei’s IP/MPLS Solution provides session based QoS (quality of service) control and routing, QoS guaranteed for real-time multi media services, and enhance network bandwidth utilization. TSTT will be setting the bar in Trinidad and Tobago. Their world-class IP/MPLS transmission network will be capable of delivering solid quality of service (QoS) guarantees to their customers backed by Huawei’s expertise in carrier-class IP bearer networks and our commitment to our operator partners like TSTT.”

Huawei will be implementing MPLS in TSTT’s core network by the end of December 2006 and the first commercial services will be deployed during Q1 2007 to multinational and regional customers. TSTT’s MPLS network will also be seamlessly connected to Cable & Wireless’ Pan Caribbean MPLS network which was launched in September 2006.

“Common Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) and MPLS-based services will be available across the Caribbean where Cable & Wireless and TSTT operate” said Jay Alvi Vice President Enterprise Services TSTT.
