TSTT promotes 5G-ready Technology at regional Summit

The 2018 LATAM WTTx Summit will take place on September 28
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad -  26 September, 2018
Industry leaders, regulators and telecom operators from Latin America and the Caribbean along with global telecoms experts will be taking part in the country’s first ever regional Summit on wireless broadband technology at the Hyatt Regency on September 28th. The event is hosted by TSTT in collaboration with Huawei and will explore the theme “Bridging the Digital Divide, Pioneering the Future of Home Broadband”. The Summit will also provide regional operators with insights from international projects and TSTT’s own first –of- its kind deployment of Wireless broadband technology that will position the company to completely eliminate older copper technology from its network.
Minister of Public Utilities Senator the Honourable Robert Le Hunte will deliver the feature address and guests will also hear from TSTT’s CEO Dr. Ronald Walcott about the company’s pioneering Zero Copper initiative. This is one of the key components of TSTT’s digital transformation and participants will see and hear first-hand of the new 5G-ready Wireless Broadband technology that TSTT is putting in homes and small and medium businesses nationwide as it seeks to eliminate the use of old copper technology from its network.
The average consumer may not recognize the extent to which cloud computing, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things already impact their lives. The trend is for more and more consumer applications and government services to use these technologies, putting customers without broadband access at an even greater disadvantage.
Digital inclusion is a critical part of any discussion that is promoting economic development. TSTT has taken it on as a necessity to ensure that people can have affordable access to high quality wireless broadband services. This is an underlying message of the summit. All of the telecom operators in the region face the same challenge of the high cost and lengthy time required to build fibre infrastructure in rural and underserved areas. The Summit will therefore include demonstrations of how the wireless broadband technology used by TSTT, is being applied in homes, businesses and even in outdoor recreational settings.
