AI-Powered Math Tutoring: bmobile & RSC Partner to Boost CSEC Math Success Rates
TSTT Corporate Communications
Thousands of CSEC students across Trinidad and Tobago now have free access to an AI-powered personal math tutor, thanks to a partnership between bmobile and Restore A Sense of I Can (RSC). This innovative software, ‘b Smart At Math,’ provides customized, one-on-one-style tutoring, making exam preparation more effective and accessible.
As part of this initiative, bmobile has invested over $300,000 in the research, development, and nationwide rollout of this AI-driven learning platform. This investment underscores bmobile's commitment to improving education and empowering students across Trinidad and Tobago.
The b Smart At Math AI-powered platform, available at no cost to students, offers access to a decade's worth of official CSEC mathematics past papers, complete with detailed, step-by-step explanations for each question and topic previously tested. Designed by over 40 secondary school students and university scholars from The University of the West Indies (The UWI), the software helps students tackle the diverse and complex mathematical concepts that form part of the challenging CSEC syllabus.
Through the implementation of AI technology, b Smart At Math empowers students to learn at their own pace, guided by a personal, digital tutor that adapts to their learning needs. This marks a transformative shift in how students engage with and master mathematics.
TSTT’s CEO, Kent Western, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, noting that the AI-powered tutor represents a step forward in both education and technology. “At bmobile, we believe in harnessing the power of innovation to bring real, lasting change to society,” said TSTT’s CEO. “Partnering with RSC on this innovative project allows us to give students access to advanced tools that make learning more engaging, effective, and accessible. This initiative aligns with our broader commitment to education, empowering the next generation to realize their full potential."
Raj Ramdass, co-founder and director of RSC, expressed confidence in the software’s ability to offer tailored, accessible education for CSEC students. He further reinforced bmobile's continuous support for this project, following their successful collaboration in 2020 when the two organizations launched a free online mathematics revision program during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, underscores their long-standing commitment to improving Math education and providing accessible learning solutions for students in need.
This initiative builds on a proven track record of success. In 2024, bmobile and RSC’s previous online math revision program earned the prestigious Telecommunications and Broadcasting Industry (TBI) Award for Social Contribution, recognizing its impact on student achievement.
The AI-driven software tailors its teaching approach by evaluating each student’s individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning pace. This customizes feedback, explanations, and problem sets, effectively providing each student with their own personal tutor.
In response to Trinidad and Tobago’s relatively low pass rates in mathematics for the past several years, bmobile and RSC are striving to improve outcomes, particularly for students who may have struggled with traditional classroom instruction. According to Dr. The Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, only 36% of CSEC students in the region pass mathematics, with Trinidad and Tobago’s pass rate slightly higher at 42%.
By offering free, accessible software, bmobile and RSC aim to drive up pass rates and ensure more students are prepared to succeed in mathematics, a subject critical to their future academic and professional success.
Sharlene Hicks-Raeburn, President of the Association of Principals for Public Secondary Schools, hailed the project as a game-changer for students struggling with Math. “This software meets the students where they are, offering tailored learning that builds confidence, engagement, and improved understanding,” she remarked. “It’s the perfect tool for the modern learner.”
b Smart At Math was shared with Secondary School Mathematics teachers across Trinidad and Tobago for their dissemination to their students. The AI-driven Math tutor is also available to CSEC students via bmobile’s website (www.bmobile.co.tt), where students can register, sign in, and begin using the software. It offers detailed video tutorials, theory lessons, and worked-out solutions for past exam papers, helping students understand both the “how” and the “why” behind solving each problem.
This platform not only represents a bold step in the evolution of educational technology but also demonstrates bmobile's commitment to supporting the growth of Trinidad and Tobago’s students by providing them with the tools they need to excel in an increasingly competitive world.
bmobile’s continued investment in such initiatives reflects its broader philosophy of making meaningful, sustainable contributions to education, innovation, and youth development. As RSC and bmobile look to the future, they are confident that this partnership will empower generations of students, helping them achieve success and confidence in the subjects that matter most.
